Successful completion of this unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. The course material covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.
Please note the minimum age to enrol in this course is 14 years.
Eligibility Criteria
You must complete Prepare to work safely construction induction training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). Western Riverina Community College is a Safework approved RTO.
You will need to provide the trainer with 100 points of ID on the day of your course. No photocopies will be accepted. Failer to provide sufficient I.D. will result in not being able to begin the training as this is a SafeWork requirement.
The course fee is set independently by the RTO.
Upon enrolment, you will be contacted by WRCC to complete a student declaration:
This Statutory Declaration is required by you to confirm your language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) ability is at a sufficient level to ensure students are able to undertake SafeWork NSW and other approved assessments. Such assessments determine a student has developed knowledge to ensure safety is guaranteed when involved in working and or visiting construction sites, situations within any work role and defined responsibility.
In instances where a Students LLN is underdeveloped, you may not successfully pass the required assessments. By completing this declaration is your opportunity to let the college know if you have concerns surrounding your LLN capabilities. In instances where a student identifies underdeveloped LLN skills, the prospective student will be given the opportunity to be provided with LLN support free of charge.
Support provided by the College aims to assist with the students LLN development prior to attendance at a course. Such assistance is facilitated by the college to improve your LLN skills with an intention to successfully complete the course. However, while assistance is provided to improve individuals English LLN skills. Such interventions are not intended to teach an individual English. In circumstances where an individual has minimal English LLN. The College will refer to alternate pathways to enable English LLN skills development.
In situations where a prospective Student states within their declaration that they have English LLN barriers, the College will make an appointment for you with the WRCC Student Support Officer (SSO). The SSO will work with you to improve your skills before the course takes place.
However, If you have English language, literacy and or numeracy issues and fail to disclose them, you may not satisfactorily complete the training, resulting in loss of fees paid. WRCC cannot be held responsible for a persons inability to successfully complete a course. Particularly in circumstances where the student fails to disclose pertinent information in their application for enrolment.
